Chris Pratt has revealed what he learned from his mother-in-law Maria Shriver about raising children in the glare of the spotlight.

He shares his daughters Lyla, three, and Eloise, two, with his wife Katherine Schwarzenegger, and also co-parents his son Jack, 11, with his ex-wife Anna Faris.

Katherine was raised in a fishbowl of media attention, considering her mother Maria is a Kennedy scion and her father is Arnold Schwarzenegger.

However Chris has always been struck by how 'amazing' Katherine and her siblings turned out, and hopes to ask his mother-in-law 'everything' about how not to 'ruin' his own children in spite of the 'privilege' they have.

The 44-year-old movie hunk divulged some of her parenting tips this week while appearing on the Today show - which Maria anchored in the 1980s.

'Oh my gosh, I mean, she’s like a living saint. I feel that, and she’s funny and accessible and brilliant,' Chris gushed of his mother-in-law.

'She’s so involved in the lives of her children. She’s raised four – she and Arnold have raised four amazing kids, and that’s not always an easy thing to do,' he noted.

Maria and Arnold married in 1986 at the height of his movie stardom and welcomed four children - Katherine, 34, Christina, 32, Patrick, 30, and Christopher, 26.

Arnold is also the father of a 26-year-old son called Joseph Baena, whom he conceived during an affair with the family's housekeeper Mildred Baena.

Chris reflected: 'You see people in Hollywood or people who’ve got like a lot of privilege, and they end up raising kinda rotten kids.'

As such, Chris hopes to ask Maria 'everything' about her parenting methods: '"What’d you do? How did you not spoil them? How did you not ruin ‘em?"'

He shared some of her techniques: 'I think she holds them accountable. You know, when Maria walks in the room, you stand up.'

His mother-in-law, he pointed out, is 'big on manners and she’s big on accountability and she’s deeply rooted in her faith, and these are all things that I definitely wanna take and implement in the rearing of our children.'

Chris is currently in the midst of the publicity whirlwind for his next release The Garfield Movie, which bows in theaters on Friday.

He provides the voice of the iconic orange cat, amid a cast that includes Samuel L. Jackson, Hannah Waddingham, Ving Rhames, Nicholas Hoult and Cecily Strong.

Lately he has been spotted filming an upcoming sci-fi movie called Mercy, directed by the Russo-Kazakh filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov.

He leads the picture as an LAPD detective struggling to show that he is not guilty of a violent crime he is accused of committing.

His attempts unfold against the backdrop of a futuristic city with a skyrocketing murder rate, adding another layer to his woes.

Last month, Chris candidly confessed that he sustained an ankle injury on the fourth day of Mercy's shoot while attempting to perform his own stunts.
